Dr. Eugene Alman Moore, 83, of Saluda, SC, died at his home on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Born in Spartanburg, SC, on May 22, 1938, he was the son of Roland Humphries and Roberts Hyatt Moore.
He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1956 and USC in 1960. After graduating from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1965, Gene did an internship at Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane Washington. He then completed a surgery residency at Virginia Mason Hospital, Seattle Washington. He later did a Thoracic Surgery Residency at Bowman Gray Hospital, Winston Salem, NC. He also retired as a Colonel from the Army Reserve Medical Corps. Gene was a member of Sardis Baptist Church Saluda, SC and their Adult II men's Sunday School class. Gene and wife, Lauree served 28 years in East Africa and the Horn of Africa as medical missionaries. Gene loved his Lord, his family and spending time in the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lauree Agnew Moore; children, Marie Johnson, (Allen), Roland Moore, (Karen), Robin Woodhams, (Mark), Rebecca Brazell, (Chris), Gena Moore; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray Moore, Richard Moore, Eric Moore; and sister, Susan Moore.
He was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Roberta Moore; brothers, Jerry Moore, Michael Moore; sister, Nicole Mixon; and great grandson, Connely James Moore.
A private graveside service for Dr. Moore was held at Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
