Eugene William Otto, 101, of Ridgeway, SC, died on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Born on August 27, 1923, in Santa Rosa, California, he was a son of the late Ora Earl Otto and Winne Evelyn Patterson Otto.
Mr. Otto led a full and vibrant life. A World War II veteran, he was an avid golfer and fisherman; loved to travel; played the organ, piano, and violin; and served as the Mayor of Monte Vista, CO. He could even knit! He loved his grandchildren with all his heart. A true gentleman that was beloved by all who knew him. A special thanks to his many friends in Cobblestone Park that welcomed him with open arms in his twilight years.
Survivors include his children, Ann Elizabeth Byrum (Richard) of Ridgeway, SC and Stephen Otto( Carol) of Payson, AZ; grandchildren, Jenny Cox (Clay), Quintin Byrum, Logan Byrum, Devon Otto and Erin Otto, as well as great grandchildren, Cohen Cox and Cruz Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Lenore Sheldon Otto; his daughter, Carolyn Otto, and his brother, Earl P. Otto
The funeral service for Mr. Otto will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday, November 23rd at the Main Post Chapel on Fort Jackson located at 4580 Scales Ave, Columbia, SC 29207. The family will receive guests prior to the service at the Main Post Chapel beginning at 1 o'clock.
A private committal service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Eugene's beloved wife, Betty Otto.
Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family and will announce further plans.
