Mr. Eugene "Gene" Pastelak, 85, of Chapin, formerly of Johns Island, died Wednesday, August 14, 2019.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 o'clock, Monday, August 19th at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 306 North Pines Road, Blythewood, with Msgr. James LeBlanc officiating. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will be said at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mr. Pastelak was born January 20, 1934, in Pottstown, PA, the son of Andrew Pastelak and Anna Kovach Pastelak. He was a graduate of The Hill School of Pottstown, PA. After service in the United States Army Ordnance Corps, Gene attended Temple University and graduated with a degree in organic chemistry. He had a long career in industrial research and development and held multiple patents. Gene returned to the Charleston area after his retirement and was an active parishioner at Saint Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church. An accomplished woodworker, he also enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Courtney and relaxing with his wife Gerry at their home on Johns Island.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Eugene Pastelak (Julie) of Columbia, SC; daughter, Beth Pastelak Geiss (Paulo) of Seabrook Island, SC; and granddaughter, Courtney Victoria Geiss of Manhattan, NY. Gene was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Geraldine Ann Sikorski; by his parents, brothers and sisters; and by his grandson, William Edward Geiss.
