Eugene Edward Sharpe, 82, of Columbia, died Saturday, April 6, 2013. Born in Richland County on January 24, 1931, he was a son of the late Clark and Minnie Lee Currie Sharpe. Mr. Sharpe was a proud veteran of the US Army and after fulfilling his military duty, he continued to serve our nation through working in civil service at Ft. Jackson.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Theresa P. Sharpe; sisters, Juanita "Neat" (Leon) McKay, and Mary Ann Frazee; sons, Ronnie (Dorothy) Sharpe, and Bill (Donna) Hicks. Mr. Sharpe is also survived by multiple grandchildren and nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sharpe was preceded in death by a daughter Gail Sharpe Hudson; granddaughter, Christina Sharpe Stabler; brothers, James, Bennie, and Buddy Sharpe; and sister, Frances Dooley.

The graveside service for Mr. Sharpe will be held 3 o'clock, Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Memorial Gardens of Columbia, Wilson Blvd., Columbia, with The Rev. David Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30 until 2:30 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
