Mrs. Eulysis Hawkins Griggs, 86, of Columbia, died Monday, February 23, 2015. Born March 21, 1928, in Hartsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Harley Hawkins and Pauline Cassidy Hawkins. Mrs. Griggs was a caring and compassionate person, and she spent her life in service to others as a nurse with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Jackie, Kathy, Rachel, and Roberta of Caris Hospice Care; Angie Riddle, ANP, of Senior Health Associates; and the staff of NHC Lexington for their loving care and support.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley G. (Wayne) Watts of Gaston; son, Mitchell R. (Vicki) Griggs of Piedmont; grandchildren, Heather Haas, Michelle English, Kimberly Dover; great grandchildren, Chase and Skylar Haas; and brothers, Mendel "Buddy" (Rebecca) Hawkins of Orangeburg, and Heyward Hawkins of Florida. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griggs was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Griggs; daughter, Freida L. Griggs; granddaughter, Susan Branham; brother, W.C. Hawkins; and sisters, Sammie Seeman, Gwendolyn Enzor, and Sadie Kelly.

The funeral service for Mrs. Griggs will be held 2 o'clock, Friday, February 27th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Burial will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.
