Obituary

Eva Mae was born June 23, 1915, in Gaffney, SC, eldest daughter of the late Hoyle H. and Eva M. Daniels. She was the beloved wife of 74 years of the late Col. Richard J. Noble, Sr., US Army. They retired from Fort Jackson in 1970, making Columbia their home. She was the cherished mother of Mary Ann (Anthony) Pula of Cheektowaga, NY; Richard J. (late Livvy) Noble, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA and Barbara (John) Hastings of Arlington, TX; and the adored grand-mother, "Mutti," of Stacey Thornburg, John Y. Stokes, Robert N. Brooks, Michelle Noble, Melissa George, Scott and Robert Fowler and great-grandmother of 11. She is also survived by her brothers, Gene Daniels and Hoyle Daniels; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Jack Daniels; sisters, Mary Cummings and Gladys Stokes.

Eva Mae was a proud graduate of Limestone College and used her education to enrich the lives of her children, grandchildren and countless young men and women around the globe as her 32 years an Army wife brought her to Posts in Germany, Japan and around the USA. Her generous green thumb brightened the gardens of friends around Columbia; as her work with the Belle Dent Circle at Bethel UMC did for many nursing home residents. After moving to New York to live near her daughter, Eva Mae introduced many Yankees to a real Southern Lady who had earned the title Steel Magnolia.
