Evelyn Reeves Coker, 91 of Columbia, went to be with her Lord Thursday, August 19, 2021. Born July 19, 1930, in Crenshaw County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Irby Ray Reeves and Ruby Sanders Reeves.
A member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, she was a loyal member serving in such capacities as assistant treasurer, member of the bereavement committee, choir member, singing seniors, women's mission group, and her Sunday School class. She worked as secretary to the president of Security Federal Savings and Loan and school secretary at A. C. Moore Elementary School. Evelyn entered the Mature Student program at age 47 at the University of South Carolina. She graduated with a degree in accounting. After receiving her degree, she served as the bookkeeper at C.A. Johnson High School until she retired.
Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Presher (Tom) and Ginger Hughes; granddaughters, Sydney Pearson and Jordan Hughes. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, James A. Coker.
The funeral service for Mrs. Coker will be held at 11:00 o'clock, Tuesday, August 24th, at Crescent Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Ben Newman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Monday, August 23rd at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
