Evelyn Ready Kalutz, age 91, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021. Born February 2, 1930, in Columbia, S.C., she was the daughter of the late W. A. Ready and Annie Wise Ready. A loving wife, she was the widow of Eugene Kalutz, her husband of 41 years.
A kind, gentle, and supportive mother to her children, Mrs. Kalutz was also a devoted member of Eau Claire Baptist Church. A lover of music, she was a faithful and talented choir member from her early teens throughout her life. She loved her many years of work with the South Carolina Tax Commission, where she was affectionately known as Mrs. E. Her many friends and co-workers enjoyed her cake baking talents as much as her perpetually sweet disposition.
Survivors include her son, Theodore E. (Karen) Kalutz; grandchildren Sandra (Jeremy) Johnston, Katherine (David) Yoder, Mary Evelyn (Ashley) Fontaine, William Eugene Kalutz; eight great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Paul McDowell. In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann McDowell; sisters, Ray Roberts, Thelma Dugosh; brothers, Bill, and Austin Ready.
The family wishes to express their deepest thanks for the care, compassion, and skill of the staff, nurses, and physicians of Karesh Long Term Care in Camden, as well as their gratitude to the hospice team, whose help was truly heaven-sent.
A graveside service will be held 1 o'clock, Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road in Lexington. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family. All are invited to attend; however, masks are required, and social distancing practices will be enforced to ensure safety.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, Attn: S.C. Gift Processing, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
