Evon Fleming Benton, 84, of Columbia, and formerly of Myrtle Beach, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Born in Horry County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Alex E. and Mable Blanchard Fleming. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach and a long time Grand Strand resident. In recent years, because of declining health, she moved to Columbia to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. Mrs. Benton retired from the GTE/Verizon Corporation after 27 years of service.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Eddie and Sabrina Benton of Columbia, Chris Benton of Murrells Inlet, Kathryn Benton of Monroe, GA, Lindsay and Amy Benton of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Hunter Benton, Spencer Quinlan, Carly Lambros, Cameron Benton, Christin Benton, Brooks Benton, Cody Benton, and Samantha Benton; as well as three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Edward Benton; sister, Marion Martin; and granddaughter, Taylor Ann Benton.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Thursday, July 14th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. A private graveside service will be held at Withers Swash Cemetery in Myrtle Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daybreak Pregnancy Center, Building Fund, 2009 C Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29204.
