North Myrtle Beach - F. Hampton Davis, 81, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Beverly Jane (Hutto); sons, Trent A. Davis, Shawn T. Davis (Regina) and Britt J. Davis (Danielle); and grandchildren, Kyle A. Davis, Rachel J. Davis and Elizabeth D. Davis. He is also survived by a sister, Naomi Caswell (Lewis) and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Brooks Davis, Jr.
Born in Washington DC, Hampton spent most of the 1930s and early 1940s at Fort Belvoir, Virginia with his parents, Lawrence Brooks Davis, Sr. and Evvie Goff Davis. However, following the war, his parents relocated to their native homes in Richland County, South Carolina. He graduated from Lower Richland High School in 1952 and entered the University of South Carolina where he graduated in 1956 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He met the love of his life, Beverly, at the Rose's Five & Ten in Five Points while a student at South Carolina. They wed in 1955.
Hampton served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force from 1956-1959. Following his discharge he began a career with DuPont. He served in positions of increasing responsibility in Camden, South Carolina; Wilmington, Delaware; Waynesboro, Virginia; and Richmond, Virginia. He retired from DuPont in 1992, but he continued to stay active as a business and engineering consultant for many years. Hampton and Beverly moved to North Myrtle Beach full-time in 2010.
A lifelong Baptist, faith was an important part of Hampton's life. He was active in Branch's Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia for nearly 30 years, serving in most every leadership position available to members.
Hampton was an engineer and a craftsman through and through. He loved good jokes, healthy debate, thoughtful conversation, Gamecock sports, and the blessings of the United States. However, above all, he loved his grandchildren, children, and his wife.
