Katherine was born July 24, 1923, in Altheimer, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Massanelli Lepri. In her 20's she was employed at Bears Department Store as an engraver because her handwriting was so beautiful. Katherine spent many years cooking and serving the children and staff at two schools for Richland School District 2. Spaghetti day was a special treat for all because her Italian heritage could really shine. Katherine was the Matriarch of St. John Neumann Catholic Church where she was a long-standing parishioner. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, hummingbirds, and animals of all kinds. Most of her many years, however, revolved around her husband and six children. She loved them each deeply and was very proud of all their accomplishments.
Katherine is survived by her six loving children, John R. Bernotas (Charlene) of Columbia, Thomas G. Bernotas (Vivian) of Wahpeton, ND, Kathryn L. Seifert (Donald) of Columbia, Daniel J. Bernotas of Columbia, Jim D. Bernotas of Columbia, and Robert W. Bernotas (Vi) of Columbia. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her sister, Fran Marchetti of Scottsdale, AZ, as well as 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Gino Lepri, Jim Lepri, Alta Menotti, Lena Williams, Teresa Tomboli, Ann Menotti Davis, Sara Grassi, and Susan Lepri.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Robert (her youngest son) for fulfilling his promise to their father to care for their mother in his absence. They also appreciate his wife, Vi, and their brother, Dan, for their assistance during her final years.
Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
