Obituary

Fay Moore Bullard, 97, widow of Thomas LaGrant Bullard passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015, in Columbia, S.C. She was born October 30, 1917 in Columbia, S.C. Mrs. Bullard was the daughter of the late Lawrence Moore and Carrie Slice Moore. She is survived by nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and a great grandniece. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and two nephews.

Fay was a lifelong member of Eau Claire Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many decades and was a faithful member of Eastern Star. She also worked for many years for the Richland County Tax Auditor. Fay was married for 64 years to the love of her life and constant companion, Grant Bullard. When it rained they would drive around town, enjoying the rain falling on the windshield. Together they provided lovingly and unselfishly to their family and friends, serving as second parents to their nieces and nephews. Christmas at their home was magical with the aroma of homemade Russian tea and mounds of gifts for everyone. After retiring, Fay began knitting and made many afghans and sweaters for loved ones. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor, sometimes joking about how she could have been a witch if she had been born a day later on Halloween instead of October 30. On one occasion she spoke with a niece who was perplexed because her child needed to bring a broken object to school for "show and tell" but had nothing to take. Fay calmly replied, "Well, you'll just have to break something!" Together Fay and Grant traveled with friends through all the continental United States, Canada, and other countries, returning with gifts and mementoes to share. Their favorite destination of all times was the cool of the Great Smokey Mountains where they escaped the hot Columbia summers and marveled at the beauty of God's creation. It can be said without reservation that Fay Bullard was one of the most kind and giving people that her Lord ever put to walk upon this earth, always humbly putting service to her Savior and others above self.
