Mrs. Faye Gladden Smith, 91, of Columbia, died Monday, November 28, 2016, at Palmetto Richland Health in their Hospice Care. Born on November 10, 1925 in Great Falls, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Robert and Annie Aiken Gladden. Faye graduated from Great Falls High School in 1943, attended Mars Hill Junior College, and graduated from Winthrop College in 1946. She was employed by Southern Bell in the Accounting Department for 20 years, and as Assistant Secretary of the SC Benefit Committee for 10 years before retiring in 1977 with 30 years of service. Mrs. Smith was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a resident of Laurel Crest Retirement Community in West Columbia, SC.

Faye married Joseph A. Smith, Jr. on October 16, 1976, at Eau Claire Presbyterian Church of which she was a member. She also was a member of Women of the Church, her Circle, the choir, and The BEES (Busy, Energetic, Enthusiastic Souls).

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Smith and her sister, Madge G. Proctor. Survivors include two nephews, William Roddy (Andrea) Proctor of Rock Hill, and James Robert (Teresa) Proctor of Rock Hill; five great nieces and nephews; and seven great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her husband's four nieces, Carolyn Noland (Greg) Peck of Lexington, SC, Alice Noland (Mark) Filteau of Orlando FL, Eleanor Noland (Ed) Marra of Lexington, SC, and Elizabeth Noland (Greg) Warner of St. Louis, MO; ten great nieces and nephews; and five great-great nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock, Thursday, December 1st at Eau Claire Presbyterian Church, 629 Wildwood Ave. in Columbia, SC., with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is assisting the family.
