Floyd Terry Baldwin, 81, of Columbia, died Friday, February 8, 2013. Born in Buffalo, SC on January 22, 1932, he was the son of the late William Pinkney and Florence Sprouse Baldwin. Floyd attended Union High School in Union SC, and was a veteran of two wars having served in Korea and Vietnam. Floyd was in the US Navy from 1950-1954 and served aboard the USS Valley Forge. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1957 and worked as a Flight Engineer on C130A class airplanes, and was awarded various medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Floyd was a member of Bayview Baptist Church where he was a deacon, choir member and Sunday school teacher. He later joined the North Trenholm Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Floyd enjoyed baseball and football and he spent many hours writing poetry.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jo Knox Baldwin; sons, Tim (Suzy) Baldwin, and Rob (Ramona) Baldwin; and grandchildren, Terri, Michael, Jesse, Mallory and Miles. In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Lynn Baldwin; and granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Baldwin.
The funeral service for Mr. Baldwin will be held 2:30 o'clock, Sunday, February 10th, at North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC, with the Rev. R. Joseph Copeland officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:30 o'clock.
