Our earthly angel, Frances L. Hayes Metze, 87, widow of Albert C. Metze, Sr. left this world surrounded by her family on July 19th to be with her Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with cancer. Frances was born on January 22, 1926 in Fairfield County to the late John and Martha Scott Hayes. She was a patient care assistant for 35 years and prior to that she was a nurse's assistant for the local hospitals. She was an active member of Earlewood Baptist Church until her health failed her. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Surviving are three sons, Albert C. (Redman) Metze, Jr., Phillip C. (Shirley) Metze, and Kenneth R. (Bernadine) Metze, Sr., all of Columbia; grandchildren, Carlisle, Phillip, John, Jr., Renee, James "Duke", and Kenneth Metze, Jr., Randy, Sandy, and Alton Elledge; twenty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, John S. Metze, Sr.; daughters-in-law, Patricia and Fannie Metze; brothers, George, John, Colie, Barry, and Fletcher; sisters, Annie, Carrie, and Evelyn "Ebb."
Frances' passion was the love she had for her family and the love for her Lord and Savior. Her favorite Scripture passage was the 23rd Psalm. The family wishes to express their gratitude to her oncology physicians and her nurse, Limica Stewart. A special thank you to our family and friends for all of your prayers during our mother's illness.
A funeral service for Mrs. Metze will be held 2 o'clock Monday, July 22, 2013 at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC. Burial will follow in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews. The family will receive friends 5 until 7 o'clock Sunday, July 21, 2013.
