Frances C. Huggins

Frances C. Huggins, 92, of Columbia, passed peacefully Wednesday morning, May 29,2026 at Prisma Richland Hospital. She was 92 years old, Frances was born in Union, South Carolina June 7, 1933. Her parents were William and Louise Culbreath. She was raised in a family full of love and laughter with three sisters and one brother who had all proceeded her.

Frances went on to graduate from Winthrop University in 1955. While at college she fell in love with Edward Huggins. She married Lt Edward Huggins in July 1955. They went on to travel across post war Europe and live across America from the east coast to the west coast to Hawaii. They returned to South Carolina after Ed retired from the military in 1983. During their journeys they raised 3 children, Michelle, Melinda and Thomas. Her daughter Melinda was developmentally delayed. Frances ensured she was well cared for and active and involved in everything. When her son was born with a hip deformity that left him in a body cast for the first few years of his life. Her excellent seamstress skills enabled her to sew clothes that would fit him. She also ensured he was well cared for and active and involved in everything. He later became a professional triathlete. As she traveled all over the country she and Edward always found a church family. Jesus was always her compass and her comfort. In Columbia she found her last church home at her beloved Windsor United Methodist Church. She was actively involved in everything at Windsor from vacation Bible school, to volunteering at garage sales, the soup kitchen at Washington Street United Methodist Church and the many other church projects. Frances was an excellent seamstress and cook, an avid gardener and loved to read. If she didn’t have a mop, cooking spoon or garden clippers in her hands then she had a book in her hand which was often her Bible that she read every day. She is survived by her three children, Michelle, Melinda, and Thomas; and her beloved grandchildren, Inez and Irene Nicholson and Maddie and Willem Thomas.

The memorial service to honor Mrs. Huggin's life will be held at 4 o'clock on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Windsor United Methodist Church, 9500 Windsor Lake Blvd. Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church, beginning at 3 o'clock until 4 o'clock.
