Francis Norbert Schmieding entered the greater life on November 25, 2018. Frank was born January 7, 1942 in Harlan, Iowa, to the late Peter and Ann (Wirtz) Schmieding.

After graduating from high school, Frank enlisted and served honorably in the United States Navy. He was retired from Forest Lake Golf Club. In his retirement, Frank volunteered at several places: Riverbanks Zoo, Shepherd's Center and Town Theatre. On Sunday mornings, he could be found helping to cook breakfast for the homeless at Trinity Cathedral. Frank was an active member of The Church of the Good Shepherd where he served as a member of the Flower Guild and Garden Guild. He was also a long-time Eucharistic Minister and Eucharistic Visitor.

Survivors include his four brothers, Peter Schmieding of Imperial, Missouri, Mike Schmieding of Kansas City, Kansas, Cy and Bill Schmieding of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Mary Ann Schmieding of Omaha, Nebraska.

A Requiem Mass will be held on Friday, November 30th at 12 o'clock at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 1512 Blanding Street, Columbia. Burial will follow in the church yard. A reception will be held at the Parish Hall following the burial. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
