Obituary

Frank William Boney, Sr., 90, of Blythewood, S.C., died Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Born May 20, 1924, he was a son of the late Julius Earl and Corrie Elizabeth Stevens Boney. Following graduation from Blythewood High School in 1941, Mr. Boney joined the US Army, serving in the 269th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. He received the Bronze Star for meritorious service in the European Theater. Following discharge, Mr. Boney attended Draughan Business College. He enjoyed a 52 year career in the food brokerage business; working for 37 years with W.W. Williams Corp. as sales manager, and later McKinney-Reese McCallister and Atlas Marketing Company until his retirement in 1998.

Mr. Boney was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church, Blythewood, and a former member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, Columbia. He was a member and past president of the Columbia Food Brokers Association, and a member of the Food Retailers Association of S.C. He was also a member of the American Legion and Columbia Country Club, where he was an avid golfer, held various offices and forged lifelong friendships. He was a man of dignity, integrity and honor.


A loving and devoted husband, he was deeply committed to all of his family. Mr. Boney is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Douglas) Long of Knoxville, TN, Susan (Greg) Hendrix of Blythewood; son, Frank William (Donna) Boney, Jr. of Blythewood; grandchildren, Lindsay (Buckner) Hagood, Whitney (Cameron) Brazell, Jamie Long (Alex) Oliver; great-granddaughter, Emma Brazell; sister, Elizabeth B. N. Kinnard; and a brother, Harold S. Boney; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Earline Hodge Boney; brothers, Thomas Earl Boney and Charner Boney; as well as infant siblings, Roy, Louise and Dorothy.

The funeral service for Mr. Boney will be held at 2 o'clock, Saturday, February 21, at Sandy Level Baptist Church, 408 Blythewood Rd. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Friday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
