Gayle Dickert Kendall, 73, of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Palmetto Health Baptist after a long and valiant fight with chronic illnesses.
Mrs. Kendall was born October, 5, 1939 in Columbia and was a daughter of the late Rev. Roy E. and Nadeen Williams Dickert. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, she attended schools in Columbia (Olympia), Easley and Calhoun Falls. She attended Columbia College and Columbia Junior College. A lover of music, she enjoyed playing the piano, especially hymns. She was an avid reader and her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Joseph D. Kendall; her children, Laura (Mark) Keels, Joey (Cecy) Kendall and Lisa (Terry) Glenn; a sister, Annette (Wayne) Copland. Lovingly known as "Gammie", she also leaves her six grandchildren, Jordan and Jared Keels, Andrea (Kendall) Jennings, Casey and David Kendall, Ryan Kendall Glenn. She will also be missed by her 12 year old, Penny, their Beagle. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kendall was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy E. (Dickie) Dickert, Jr. and James Wallace Dickert; as well as a grandson, Brian Kendall.
A funeral service for Mrs. Kendall will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, March 29th at St. James United Methodist Church with The Rev. Lex McDonald officiating. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Swansea. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock.
