Obituary

George Shrader Coulter, Jr. died Tuesday morning at his home in Columbia, SC. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne Phillips Simons; his father, George Shrader Coulter, Sr.; and his brother, Ronald Phillips Coulter, all of Jacksonville, FL. His surviving family includes his sister, Dorothy Coulter Adams and husband, A.L. Adams; his nephews, Forester Bailey Adams and wife, Perrin Clarke Adams, Franklin Field Adams and wife, Kathryn Osborne Adams; his great nephews, Forester Bailey Adams, Jr., and Joseph Clarke Adams; his great nieces, Jane Sutton Adams and Mariann Kathryn Adams.

Mr. Coulter attended The Bowles School in Jacksonville, FL and graduated in 1957. He attended the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and graduated a member of the University's School of Engineering's Honor Society.

Mr. Coulter served in the United States Navy as an instrument specialist on a nuclear submarine. He moved to Columbia, SC in 1971 to head the engineering departments for Chrysler Plants in Winnsboro, SC, Bowling Green, KY, and Effingham, IL. He earned his pilot's license in the early 1970's with sea plane and multi-engine rating.

In 1982 he began working throughout the Middle East as an engineering consultant for Wilbur Smith & Associates as well as for the US State Department for International Development. In 1996, he joined Fitts & Goodwin, Inc., a commercial and industrial construction company, as Vice President of Business Development, a post he held until his death.

The memorial service for Mr. Coulter will be held Monday, August 12th, 2:00 o'clock at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia. The family will receive guests following the service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Whiskey Literary Society of Lexington.
