George Joseph Divis, 91, died Sunday, January 21, 2018. Born in Chicago, IL on September 2, 1926, Mr. Divis was the son of the late George Divis and Emily Karvasek Divis. He was a member of Fair Lawn United Methodist Church in Columbia, SC and was a former member of Union Church in Avon Park, FL, "Where YOU matter to God". During his time at Union Church, he was an active member of the Jolly Gents and member of the American Legion Post #69 in Avon Park, FL. Mr. Divis was a lifetime member of Riverside Masonic Lodge #862 and a twice Past Master of Prospect Masonic Lodge #957. Mr. Divis was also a WWII veteran having served in the US Air Force. He was an avid golfer with a love for cars and dogs. Mr. Divis was an amazing husband, father and grandfather who loved God, his wife and family.

Mr. Divis is survived by his wife of 68 years, Magdalen Hruby Divis; a son, George Peter Divis (Laureen) of Antioch, IL; a daughter, Lydia Anne Edmonds (Gary) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Crystal Divis, Tiffany Bauwens (Josh), Lindsay Ubert (Mark), Emily Ganofsky, and Peter Ganofsky; and a great granddaughter, Erika Laureen Ubert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Christine Divis.

The service for Mr. Divis will be held at Fair Lawn United Methodist Church at 4 o'clock on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 3:30 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family.
