George C. Howell, 88, of Elgin, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018. Born January 26, 1930 in Unicoi, TN, he was the son of the late Geter and Cora Lee Bennett Howell. George was a proud veteran of the US Navy who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, as well as working with his hands and in his shop.

Mr. Howell is survived by his daughters, Pam Watts (Clay) and Cindy Roberts; a son, Bob Shell (Pamela); granddaughters, Elisa Roberts-Oglesby (Allen) and Rachel Shell; sisters, Mayme and Georgia Lee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Pauline Howell; and three sisters.

The graveside service for Mr. Howell will be held at 10 o'clock, Friday, August 3rd, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with Chaplain Anthony Hughes officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
