Obituary

Mr. George Lee "Joby" Kerr, Jr., 61, of Chapin, died Saturday, May 3, 2014. Born October 13, 1952, in Columbia, he was a son of the late George Lee Kerr, Sr. and Barbara Marceline Dease Kerr.

A member of Lutheran Church of the Ascension, Mr. Kerr owned and operated the family business, Kerr Plumbing, which was started in the 1940's by his grandfather. He was a hard worker who enjoyed his work, boxing, bicycling, tennis, and all Gamecock sports. A talented athlete, he was a Gold Glove boxer and had played semi-professional baseball for the Columbia Reds. Joby loved his children, his grandchildren, and his wife. He had great affection for animals, and was recently preceded in death by his beloved dog, Koda.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Kerr; sons, Joseph Scott "Josh" Kerr, and Justyn Blake Kerr; daughters, Kelly Kerr McKay (Bradley), and Eva "Marty" Kerr; grandchildren, Gracen Taylor-Marie Kerr, Christopher Ryan Horton, and Emmalyn Hope McKay. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mable Katherine "Kathy" Kerr.

A funeral service for Mr. Kerr will be held at 2 o'clock, Thursday, May 8th, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 827 Wildwood Ave., Columbia, with The Rev. Jackie Utley officiating. The family will greet friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, SC Division, 128 Stonemark Ln., Columbia, SC, 29210.
