Dr. Gerald "Jerry" Edward Breger, 88, of Columbia, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Born in New York, NY, on December 11, 1930, he was a son of the late Milton and Helen Breger. He was 1964 graduate of the University of Arkansas, and taught Economics for the University of South Carolina for over 50 years. Jerry was a devoted member of Beth Shalom Synagogue where everyone enjoyed being in his presence. He had a voice like no other, and always sat in the back during services knowing that his voice traveled the entire room. Once a week, he always looked forward to joining in fellowship with the Romeo Group.

Survivors include his wife, Claire Weiss Breger, of the home; daughter, Marlene Breger-Joyce, of Ashville, NC; son, Mark Breger (Tatiana), of Malaysia; granddaughters, Amy Sosebee (Andrew) and Annie Choi (John); as well as three great-grandchildren, Graceyn and Madelyn Sosebee, and Carter Choi.

The graveside service for Dr. Breger will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, January 18th, at Beth Shalom, Arcadia Lakes Cemetery, 1401 Arcadia Lakes Dr., Columbia, with Rabbi Jonathan Case officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
