Gerald Kenneth Mixon, Sr., 73, of Columbia, died peacefully Saturday, June 22, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born July 1, 1939 in Lamar, SC, he was a son of the late Algie D. Mixon and Bertha Jeffords Mixon. Gerald, a member of Westside First Church of God, loved the Lord and his family. His favorite pastimes were fishing, gardening and cooking.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy Odom Mixon; son, Ken (Angie) Mixon; daughter, Jann Anderson; brother, Harold Mixon; grandchildren, Taylor, Casey and Caitlin Anderson, Brianna and Branden Mixon; and a great-grandchild on the way, Blakelin Tadlock; sisters-in-law, Doris Mixon, and Nellie Mixon; brother-in-law, Bob O'Brien; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, L. D. (Marcella) Mixon, Elvin and Clifton Mixon; sisters, Mildred (Gene) Tyner, Sarah (Clyde) Rambo, and Betty O'Brien.
A funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock, Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.
