Girlie Lee Russell, 96, of Columbia, died Thursday, May 23, 2013. Born December 21, 1916 in Stanley Co, NC, he was a son of the late Charlie Russell and Jennie Carpenter Russell.

Survivors include his daughters, Thelma (Robert) Byrd of West Columbia, Jennie R. (Alvin) Bundrick of Columbia, Mary Jane (Charles LaVern) Grubbs of Cayce; sons, Girlie Thomas (Linda) Russell of West Columbia, Tony "Richard" (Cherry) Russell of Irmo, Robert Lee (Terry) Russell of York, Rocky Lane (Lisa) Russell of Gaston, Charlie Vance (Pearl Hoover) Russell of St. Joseph, MO; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Robertson Russell, and his second wife, Mary Ruth Anderson Russell.

A graveside service for Mr. Russell will be held at 12:30 o'clock, Tuesday, May 28th at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 11 until noon at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
