Gladys Leonhardt James, 98, of Columbia, died on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Born in Columbia, SC on March 26, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Edward Henry and Gladys Cooper Leonhardt. Mrs. James was a member of the Columbia Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years and retired from Midlands Technical College after 20 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda James Kerr (Richard); son, Kenneth James (Mary); grandchildren, Megan Martin (Melissa), Ryan Frierson and Wendy Frierson; as well as two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Bryson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Lentz James; and siblings, John, William and Edward Leonhardt.

The graveside service for Mrs. James will be held at 2 o'clock, Thursday, October 10th, at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, with Pastor Eli Rojas officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
