Gloria W. Mathias, 76, wife of Michael Wayne Mathias, Sr., passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022, after a long illness. Born July 18, 1945, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Heyward and Nellie Kirby Wylie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Michael, Jr. on June 22, 2006. Mrs. Mathias retired from South Carolina State Government after 30 years of dedicated service.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 57 years are her son, Derrick and wife, Michele; as well as her grandkids, Addison and Brayden.

The graveside service for Mrs. Mathias will be held at 11 o'clock, Thursday, March 17th at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia, SC 29201. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Wednesday at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC 29223.
