Miss Gloria Jean Mizzell passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at her home in Columbia.

She was an only child born on May 7, 1943, to the late Jasper Durant (J.D."Jack") Mizzell and the late Opal Berry Mizzell.

Gloria was a 1961 graduate of Eau Claire High School and a 1965 graduate of Columbia College, receiving a B.A. Degree in Mathematics with a minor in Sociology. In 1971 she received a Master of Mathematics Degree. She taught mathematics in high school for 14 years, spending 13 years at Airport High School and 1 year at Winnsboro High School. She was also a college instructor at Midlands Technical College. She was a member of Eau Claire Baptist Church.

Survivors include many cousins, special friends and her two loving cats "Lazarus" and "Tom". Those that knew Gloria knew she loved cats. Thank you to all her caregivers, friends and neighbors, especially Jerome & Pat Fulton, who helped Gloria during her times of need.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 11th at Eau Claire Baptist Church, 4427 N. Main Street, Columbia. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Eau Claire Baptist Church, Pets, Inc., or a charity of one's choice. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Extension is in charge of arrangements.
