Gloria Gertrude Moses, 89, of Columbia, died Monday, July 11, 2016. Born in Valdosta, GA, she was the daughter of Anthony Isaac and Idell Koosa Moses.
Ms. Moses graduated from Ursuline High School and attended the University of South Carolina.
Afterwards, Ms. Moses devoted 58 years of service to the pharmacy department at Providence Hospital. It was there that she became known as the happy, joke-telling Lebanese lady.
During her lunch hour, instead of taking time for herself, she would stop by patients' rooms for a short visit and to share a smile.
Ms. Moses was loved by her many nieces and nephews who would gather around her kitchen table for her famous stuffed squash and her lemon coconut cake, which was, according to Ms. Moses, a pain to bake.
She generously supported charities for the poor and animal welfare. Ms. Moses was known as the prayer warrior of the family as her goal during retirement was to spend her extra time praying for others. She was also an avid reader of religious literature.
She is survived by her brother, Stephen Moses of Columbia; sisters, Dolores DiMaria of Columbia, and Marguerite Ojalvo (Sam) of Blythewood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Andre Bernard, of New York, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ms. Moses will be held at 11 o'clock, Thursday, July 14th at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Final commendation and farewell prayers will be said at St. Peter's Cemetery following the Mass. The Rosary will be recited at 5 o'clock on Wednesday, July 13th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, followed by a visitation until 7 o'clock.
