Grace Taylor Camlin of Columbia, died October 12, 2012 at age 96. She was a resident of Rice Estates in Columbia. Born January 13, 1916 in Leesville, SC to parents Mr. and Mrs. Pickens Cleveland Taylor, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Dowell Camlin; infant son, Timothy Taylor Camlin; brothers, Woodrow and Dickson Taylor; and her good friend, Earl L. McElveen.

A funeral service for Mrs. Camlin will be held at 3 o'clock, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church with The Rev. D. Luther Swicegood and The Rev. Louis R. Fawcett, III officiating. Interment will follow in Ridge Crest Memorial Park, Batesburg-Leesville. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. Camlin was a graduate of Winthrop University, class of 1937, with a degree in Latin, French and English. She later received her certification in Elementary Educational and taught the 4th grade for the last 25 years of her career, before retiring in 1979.

She was an active member of The Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, The Shepherd Center, Leisure Time of Ascension Lutheran Church, and a volunteer at Palmetto Health Baptist. She enjoyed travel and gardening.

Mrs. Camlin is survived by a son, William R. (Monika) Camlin; a daughter, Ann C. (Louis) Partin, grandchildren, R. Scott (Kim) Camlin, Andrew K. Partin, Renee P. (Jim) White, and Taylor C. (Lauren) Camlin; three great-grandchildren, Aiden and Emerson Camlin, Drew White.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Rice Estates for their loving care of Mrs. Camlin since she became a resident in 2005. Additionally, the family would like to thank the Lutheran Hospice for the loving care of Mrs. Camlin in the final weeks of her life, and BeWell Home Services.
