Gretna Raymell Crisp, 78, of Columbia, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Born in Denton, NC on June 24, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Virginia Dare James Harmon and Charlie Cecero Russell. She attended Eau Claire High School and worked at Lotties Shoe and Honda Cars of Columbia. As a perfectionist in everything that she did, Mrs. Crisp was known for her crocheted hats for the homeless, as well as hats and blankets for Palmetto Health Children's Hospital. Mrs. Crisp was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, where she sang in the Choir.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Bickley; son, Les Bickley (Norma); a sister, Brenda Ayers (Claude); and brother, Thomas Hewitt (Jane). Mrs. Crisp is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Joe Matthew Crisp, she is preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Hewitt.
The service for Mrs. Crisp will be held at 2 o'clock, Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia with Dr. James W. Thompson, III officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 1920 Cedar Creek Road, Blythewood, SC 29016 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 140 Stoneridge Drive, #210, Columbia, SC 29210.
