Greva Rucker Barber, 92, of Columbia, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022. Born May 27, 1930, in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Herman B. Rucker and Magdalene E. Rucker.
Mrs. Barber was a registered nurse and graduated from the Orangeburg School of Nursing. She retired from Providence Hospital following more than a 20-year career as a nurse and director of nursing.
She was devoted to her profession and loved caring for other people. Mrs. Barber was loved by all who knew her, whether they were friends, family, or coworkers. She treated everyone the same way, no matter who they were. Mrs. Barber always had a kind word or a funny little saying like, "I may be playing possum", for everyone to hear.
She was a woman of strong Christian values and member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Barber was a wonderful "Mama" to her three children, Tricia Brogden (Buck), Jim Barber (Cindy), and Cindi Muthig (David). She was also a wonderful "MaaMaa" to her four grandchildren, Becky Blackwell (Jason), Chip Brogden (Kristin), Kaci Muthig and Zack Barber; as well as her three great grandchildren, L.J. Blackwell, Lainey Brogden, and Lilly Brogden. Mrs. Barber is also survived by her brother, Andrew Rucker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, James E. Barber, Sr. and grandson, Ben Muthig.
The graveside service for Mrs. Barber will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday, July 27th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the many wonderful workers at the Palmettos at Parklane and to Abbey Road Hospice for their loving care and devotion to Mrs. Barber over these past weeks, months, and years.
