Grover Eugene Derrick, Sr., 72, of Monticello, died Sunday, March 26, 2017. Born to the late Joel Grier Derrick and Minnie Bolton Derrick, he was a member of Little River Baptist Church. Mr. Derrick was a 32nd Degree Mason and lifetime member of the Boyleston Masonic Lodge #123, and a charter member of Jamil Temple. He was a Past Worthy Patron of Bethlehem Chapter of Eastern Star and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Derrick retired from SCE& G with 30 years of service and was currently employed by Gregory Electric. He was an avid Gamecock fan, as well as a Nascar fan.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Derrick; sons, Grover Derrick, Jr., (Glinda), Zachery Derrick, and Cody Derrick; daughters, Kerri Burrows (Joey) and Denise Derrick; a twin sister, Gloria Hallman; brother, Neil Derrick; and ten grandchildren, Ashley, Vanessa, Taylor, Katie, Austin, Serenity, Turner, Paisley, Tyler, and Justice.
The funeral service for Mr. Derrick will be held 12:30 o'clock, Friday, March 31st, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Home Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Pastor Ken Yates officiating. A private family burial will follow in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11 o'clock.
