Guy Matthew Johnston, 56, of Columbia, died Monday, March 25, 2021. Born on December 3, 1964, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Louis Owens Johnston and Margaret Ola Mae Johnston.

Guy was a Master Carpenter by trade. Combining his natural talents and skills passed down from his father, he was able to earn a living by bringing back the charm and artistry in old, weathered homes and businesses. Along with his carpentry, Guy had a passion for animals. He enjoyed being surrounded by God's creatures and could see the beauty in all things that others may consider fearful or ugly. His children and grandchildren made him very proud. He would light up at any opportunity he was given, to talk about and show pictures of his beautiful family. Guy loved his family and friends immensely. He never failed to spend time with his loved ones and always enjoyed reminiscing of the good ole days.

Guy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Louis and Ola Johnston; brothers, Erie, Carlton, and Mackie Johnston; sister, Charmaine Johnston; wife, Wendy Reid Johnston; mother-in-law, Ruby Analee Helmick; as well as several close aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his children, Guy Matthew "Matt" Johnston Jr., (Amber), Andrew "AJ" (Amy), Louis Johnston (Dixie), Michael Johnston (Stephanie), Samantha Johnston (Timothy), and Madison Reid (Reagen); sister, Gina Ladderman (Glenn); brother-in-law, Danny Proctor (Amy); sister-in-law, Becki Tindal; mother-in-law, Joanne Reid (Clyde); and former wife, Rebecca Johnston, with whom he shared twelve grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Also surviving, are his brothers by friendship; Carlisle Metze (Cheryl), Mike Humphries (Peanut), Turkey Patton (Cathy), RD Horton and his beloved Uncle Donnie Robertson (Margaret), as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends to be consider family.

A graveside service will be held 1 o'clock Saturday, March 27th at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery, 736 Camp Ground Rd, Columbia, SC 29203 with Pastor John Hamilton officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside beginning at 12 o'clock.
