Obituary

Hans "Jack" Kryger, 82, of Columbia, SC, passed away on August 6, 2024. Born on Saturday, June 6, 1942, in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of the late Albert and Maria Kryger. After completing high school, he became a brick masons apprentice and also became a certified brick mason. He moved to the United States when he was nineteen years old, where he would join the U.S. Army. He was a dog trainer during the Vietnam Conflict, and he was recognized for his service multiple times during his time in the armed forces. After leaving the Army, he worked as a brick mason for several years, building houses and buildings all over Columbia and its surrounding areas. Later he would go on to be a maintenance supervisor for the Department of Mental Health until his retirement. He will be remembered as a loving husband, amazing father, wonderful grandfather, a mentor to all who met him, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Jack was an avid craftsman who loved working with his hands, there was nothing that he could not build. He loved gardening and working in his yard, which is obvious if you have ever been to his house or even driven by. He also loved to hunt and was a member of several hunting clubs over the years. He was an active part of the Veterans Breakfast Club. Jack was an inactive member of the Lower Richland Lodge number 406 A.F.M.

In addition to his wife, Monika C. Kryger, he is survived by, his son, Robert G. Dill, Jr. (Wendy) and their children Della Rose, Luke, Jude, Mark, and Levi; Sisters-in-law, Lorna McCullough (Tony) of Thomasville, North Carolina; Florence Sparks of St. Mary's, Georgia; Brother-in-law, Lorence Crossett, Jr. (Sharon) of Tarboro, North Carolina; along with several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, his brother, Gunther "Pancho" Kryger of Berlin, Germany; and his sister, Helga Henry (Buster) of Lubbock, Texas.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at North Columbia Baptist Church, 8140 Gray Fox Blvd, Columbia, SC 29223, at 12 o'clock. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service for family and friends to gather. An inurnment will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 3 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229.
