Harold (Hal) Kenneth Reed, III, 55, of Columbia, died on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Born in Columbia, he is the son of the late Harold Kenneth Reed, Jr., and Sandra Gann Reed of Columbia.

Hal graduated from Spring Valley High School and also attended South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. He enjoyed a career in retail merchandising for many years. Hal was known for his incredible artistic talent. He loved gardening, woodworking, cooking, travel, porch-sitting with his wife and dogs, Roxie, and Daphne, while listening to his favorite music. Hal loved nothing more than bringing people together. He was the photographer and documentarian for his wide circle of friends and family. At social gatherings, he would often be found draped in kids while building cardboard box cities in the backyard.

Hal is survived by his wife, Margaret (Maggie) Reed, and his stepson, Connor Vaules; his mother, Sandra; his sisters, Joy Reed Murray (David), and Jennifer Reed, both of Columbia; as well as his niece, Emily Murray.

A memorial service for Hal will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 12 o'clock noon at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Extension. A visitation will take place at 11:30 am Thursday, prior to the service. For those who cannot attend, a livestream link will be available the day of the service at ShivesFuneralHome.com.
