Harriet "Jean" Hansen, 92, of Columbia, passed away peacefully and entered the arms of Jesus on August 21, 2025, at the home she shared with her daughter, Julie and son-in-law Kevin who were her caregivers up until her passing.
The daughter of Thomas and Hazel Waterson, Jean was born on May 15th, 1933. Jean graduated from North High School in Akron, Ohio in 1951. She would meet Charles Hansen at a friend's home in 1952 and they would marry on August 2nd, 1953. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.
Before her marriage, Jean worked at Ohio Edison in Akron, Ohio. Wanting to be home and raise their children, she transitioned to being a homemaker pouring her energy and attention to caring for her family. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping, bowling, crafting, sewing, canning, and cooking. She enjoyed playing the card game pinochle, the theatre and volunteered as an usher along with her husband at the Renaissance Theater in Mansfield, Ohio for over 30 years. Moving to Lexington, Ohio in 1977, Jean was active in the community including various women's organizations such as Welcome Wagon and Colony Club. She loved her collection of antique dolls and other collectibles and was an active member of United Federation of Doll Clubs attending their national conventions and serving in leadership positions. In her later years, she enjoyed puzzle books, listening to music, and watching old movies and television shows. Jean loved the theatre, music and dance.
Along with her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Charles Hansen, her brother, Robert Waterson, her sister, Vivian Geiger, and stillborn son.
Jean is survived by her son David (Patty), daughter Susan Gillespie, and daughter Julie Lundy (Kevin) and grandchildren Ryan and Hannah.
The family wishes to thank her daughter Julie for being her primary caregiver over many years, advocating for Jean's health and well-being.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Jean will be interred next to her husband in Rose Hill Burial Park, Akron, Ohio.
