Obituary

Harriet Boatwright Huiet died peacefully at her home on May 15, 2025, with her loving family around her.

Born in Columbia, SC, in May 1949, Harriet grew up in Johnston, SC, and was the daughter of Betty Power Boatwright and Mark Toney Boatwright. She was married for 55 years to James Frederick (Fred) Huiet, Jr. Together they had two children: James Frederick Huiet, III (Nancy) and Candler Huiet Tindall (Robbie) and five grandchildren: Reynolds, Boden, and Huiet Tindall, and James and Mary Ford Huiet. Harriet had two sisters: Betsy Darnall and the late Anne Ratchford, as well as sisters-in-law: Sandra Grandy, Connie Harling, and Beverly Burch, and a brother-in-law, Wally Huiet.

After attending Gulf Park College in Mississippi and Columbia College (SC), she was very involved in the community and her church. In addition to teaching Sunday school, Harriet served on the Flower Guild at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Columbia for 25 years, including a term as Director. She started her own floral design business, TLC Flowers, and enjoyed arranging flowers for many weddings in Columbia for nearly 20 years. Harriet also served as a member of the USC School of Medicine Partnership Board and Columbia Young Life's Adult Committee.

Harriet and Fred enjoyed traveling the world, but their favorite place to retreat was their home in Hendersonville, NC.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 20 at 2:00 at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields. A reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Columbia Young Life or to the USC School of Medicine – Columbia at donate.sc.edu. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
