Harry Stewart "Stu" Aleshire, a beloved husband, father, and community member, died peacefully in his sleep on August 6, 2023, at the age of 85 in Columbia, South Carolina. Born in May 1938, in Roanoke, Virginia, he was the cherished son of the late Harry Scott and Erah Obenshain Aleshire.
Stu's journey through life was marked by a commitment to education, service, family, and creative pursuits. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke and furthered his education at the prestigious College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, earning his degree in 1962. Stu's dedication to his country was evident through his service in the Army and National Guard, which began at Fort Jackson.
A cornerstone of his life was his enduring love for his wife, Wanda Robertson Aleshire. Their 63-year marriage was a testament to their deep bond and unwavering partnership. Stu embarked on a rewarding career with Allstate Insurance, serving as a regional claims manager across several cities, including Richmond, Roanoke, Virginia Beach, Charleston, WV, Marietta, GA, and Charlotte, NC. After more than 30 years with Allstate, Stu retired in Columbia, SC, where he continued to contribute his expertise by working for PMSC in Blythewood and as an insurance consultant.
Upon retirement, Stu embraced his artistic passions. He explored the world of painting in oils, watercolors, and stained glass, showcasing his creations through the Trenholm Artist Guild, SC State Fair and local art sales. For Stu, the act of creation was its own reward, and his artistic spirit brought joy to himself and those around him.
Stu's spirit of adventure and love for his wife led them to travel extensively across the United States and to countless breathtaking destinations worldwide. A passionate tennis player throughout his life, Stu fulfilled his dream of attending all the major tennis tournaments across the globe. His thirst for excitement also extended to golfing, racing sailboats, and friendly games of bridge with close friends who held a special place in his heart.
In his later years, Stu discovered the benefits of yoga and Pilates at the JCC, nurturing both his physical and mental well-being. He also dedicated himself to volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity through his church, embodying his commitment to making a positive impact on his community. As an active member and leader within his Homeowners Association, Stu played a vital role in shaping and improving his neighborhood.
Stu leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and creativity. He is survived by his cherished wife, Wanda Robertson Aleshire; daughters, Susan Stewart Evans (John) of Chesapeake, VA, and Julie Aleshire Howe (Scott) of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Whitney, Shayn, Zachary, Seth, and Luke; as well as six great-grandchildren.

May his memory continue to inspire us to embrace our passions, cherish our loved ones, and contribute to the betterment of our communities, just as Stu did throughout his remarkable journey.
