Harry Leroy Cartzendafner, 87, of Columbia, died Friday, January 25, 2019. Born June 22, 1931, in Union Bridge, Maryland, he was a son of the late Joseph Ralph Cartzendafner and Lamora Pauline Fink. He was a 1949 graduate of Lackey High School and later graduated from El Paso Community College in Texas. Mr. Cartzendafner honorably served his country for 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant prior to his retirement. During his enlistment, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for distinctive accomplishments and managerial abilities at Shaw Air Force Base in the 1960's. Following his military career, Mr. Cartzendafner was the assistant pro at Columbia Country Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed golf club repair. Mr. Cartzendafner was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Norma Cartzendafner; daughters, Myra Duez (Steve), B. Susan Ward (Chuck), and Carol Beis (Chris); granddaughter, Erika Swann (Lawton); and great-grandchildren, Mason Swann and Brynley Swann.
The funeral for Mr. Cartzendafner will be held at 12:30pm, Thursday, January 31st at North Trenholm Baptist Church with Reverend David Knapp and Reverend R. Joseph Copeland officiating. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary prior to the service beginning at 11:30am. Burial will follow at 2:00pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
