Obituary

Hazel Hindman Burrows, 79, of Columbia, died on Sunday, June 9, 2024. Born November 8, 1944, in Fort Lawn, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Judson Hindman and Shirley Robertson Hindman.

Ms. Burrows graduated from Baptist Hospital Nursing School and Richland Memorial Hospital School of Anesthesia. As a Nurse Anesthetist, she provided anesthesia services at the former Columbia Hospital and Lexington Medical Center. Ms. Burrows also free lanced with various physician's offices and other hospitals throughout the midlands, but her love was providing anesthesia for plastic surgery cases. She retired in 2015 after more than 50 years of dedicated service to the healthcare community. Ms. Burrows was a career member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and member of the South Carolina Board of Nursing.

Ms. Burrows had a passion for gardening. Friends and guests often commented that her yard resembled a botanical garden. She also spent her spare time shopping, attending estate sales, and traveling. Her contagious personality and generosity facilitated many lifelong friendships and a strong circle of friends. Ms. Burrows greatest joy was her two grandsons, they were truly the apple of her eye.

Survivors include her son, Leon Matthew Burrows, II (Sara) of Columbia, SC; grandsons, Jack and Ryan Burrows; brother, William "Buddy" Hindman as well as multitude of nieces, nephews, and other extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Clyde Judson Hindman, Jr., John Earl Hindman, James Glenn Hindman, Joye Broome, Gloria Clements, and Shirley Wright.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 until 4 o'clock, Sunday, June 23rd at The Palmetto Club, 1231 Sumter St, Columbia, SC 29201.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 3, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
