Heidi R. Thornton, 62, of Elgin, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Born on December 13, 1955, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was married to Charles E. Thornton for 39 years. A life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 28, Heidi enjoyed being a part of the Quilt of Valor as a presenter and quilter. She was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) and enjoyed sewing, riding, helping veterans and PGR missions. Heidi, a member of Spears Creek Baptist Church, and loved reading books, especially her Bible, and enjoyed sharing Jesus with others.
In addition to her husband, Heidi is survived by her sister, Margie Lopez (Ernest); cousin, Sandra Fonda and her family; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Thornton and Gary Thornton (Adraka); nephew, Steven Lopez (Chrissy and son, Justin); and niece, Christina Payne (John and children, Savannah and Zackary).
The service will be held at 1:30 o'clock, Tuesday, February 6th, at Spears Creek Baptist Church, 116 Spears Creek Church Road, Elgin with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 7 o'clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
