Obituary

Helen Reynolds Groetzinger, the daughter of Altamont Moses and Lorena Dennis Reynolds, died Sunday, November 19, 2017, in her home. Born on March 4, 1921 in Lamar, SC, Helen grew up on a farm with her parents and her three brothers. After graduating high school, she attended business school in Columbia and went to work for Greyhound. It was her brother, Harold, who introduced her to a friend and fellow choir member, Tom Groetzinger. They were married on July 10, 1948. Helen went on to devote her entire life to her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Groetzinger Faulk (Dale); her grandchildren, Emily Albrink Katz (David) and Peter Albrink; and a great grandson, Edwin Peter Katz. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, her loving and devoted caregiver, Dorothy Hickmon Graham, and her sweet dog, Wilson. She is predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Thomas Marshall Groetzinger; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Altamont Reynolds; her daughter, Nancy Groetzinger Albrink; her three brothers, Wilburn, Kirk, and Harold Reynolds; and her beloved service dog, Sally.

In addition to Dorothy, Helen was cared for by many loving caregivers over the years. Sincere appreciation goes to Sharon Washington, Helen Shiver and Zonna Lawson. All of these amazing ladies allowed Helen to live out her life in the comfort of her home. Also, a special thank you is extended to Tracy and Lilliane with Amedisys Hospice, as well as Dr. Victor Hieth, her dedicated and longtime physician, and The First Presbyterian Church Care Team.

A service for Helen will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, November 26th at The First Presbyterian Church, Smith Chapel, 1420 Washington Street, Columbia, SC, with the Reverend David H. Lauten officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Atrium of Jackson Hall. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC, 29201.
