Helen Sightler Lockman, 91, of Columbia and formerly of Gaston, entered into the presence of her Savior on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Born on October 19, 1932, in Gaston, South Carolina, she was the second daughter of the late Archie Daniel Sightler, Sr. and Jessie Pound Sightler.
Mrs. Lockman was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church of Gaston, where she was a faithful member of the choir for many years and enjoyed serving others. Prior to her retirement, she was a long-time employee of Gaston Rural Water District as a financial secretary. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, growing beautiful roses and spending time with her family. She was an excellent wife, a loving mother and took special attention in caring for her home. Hospitality was one of her many gifts. She loved opening the doors of her home for family gatherings on every occasion imaginable. Helen loved her family well.
Survivors include her son, Harry Ellsworth Lockman, Jr. (Gail) of Columbia; grandson, William Harry Lockman of Columbia; granddaughter, Naomi Gwendolyn Bridges of Simpsonville, SC, as well as her three brothers and numerous members of her large extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ellsworth Lockman, Sr.; daughter, Julie Lockman Bridges, and three sisters.
The funeral service for Mrs. Lockman will be held at 2 o'clock, Monday, May 13th at First Baptist Church of Gaston, 121 Oakey Springs Dr, Gaston, SC 29053. The burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 1 o'clock.
