Helen Coutsos Wilson, 82, of Blythewood, died peacefully with her family at her bedside, Thursday, January 16, 2014. Born in Columbia on September 18, 1931, she was a daughter of the late George John Coutsos and Ruth Brown Coutsos. She was a member of Killian Baptist Church and an avid Gamecock fan. After working with the University of South Carolina, she went on to retire from the Midlands Center. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother great-grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, E. J. Wilson; sons, Ronnie (Debbie) Wilson of Blythewood, Steve (Debra) Wilson of Douglasville, GA, Mark Wilson of Garden City, SC; a daughter, Lynn (Mark) Nyland of Blythewood; sister, Anita Kirby of Columbia; brother, Jimmy Coutsos of Irmo; grandchildren, Alicia, Jeff, Michael, Sarena, Shane, and Tara; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, George, Johnny, Billy, and Gus; and sisters, Froshene, Olga, and Penelope.
A graveside service will be held at 3 o'clock, Sunday, January 19th at Killian Baptist Church Cemetery, 577 Killian Road, Columbia, with The Rev. Ron Avant and The Rev. Richard A. Humphries officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Saturday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
