Henry Calvin Blocker, Jr., 86, of Columbia, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 7, 2012. Born November 2, 1925 in Glennville, GA he was a son of the late Henry Calvin Blocker, Sr. and Kathryn Turner Blocker.
Mr. Blocker retired from the US Army as a medical corpsman. He was proud to have served in WWII and Korea where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of Woodfield Park Baptist Church and the Jackson Masonic Lodge #374.
Survivors include his sons, Calvin (Judy) Blocker of Sumter, Dana (Jane) Blocker of Pawleys Island; daughter-in-law, Dixie Blocker of Ridgeway; brother, Kenneth (Betty) Blocker of Glennville, GA; four grandchildren: Paul, Ginger, Jason, and Ashley; six great-grandchildren, as well as,
several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blocker was preceded in death by his wife, Minta Lou Murray Blocker; son, Wayne Blocker; nine brothers and one sister.
The funeral service for Mr. Blocker will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Woodfield Park Baptist Church, The Rev. Jeff Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Woodfield Park Baptist Church, 1834 Morninglo Lane, Columbia, SC 29223. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
