Henry Herbert Mott

Henry Herbert Mott, 84, of Columbia, SC formally of Murrells Inlet, SC, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Mr. Mott was born on April 25, 1942, and grew up and lived most of his life in Spartanburg, SC. He was the son of the late Henry Herbert Mott and Sally Mott of Spartanburg, SC

Mr. Mott was educated in the Spartanburg City Schools and attended Wofford College where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was employed starting in 1965 for South Carolina National Bank and later First National Bank and Morgan Bank & Trust and American Federal Bank. In 1988 he started a new career in Real Estate with Brock Realty and Later, Prudential C. Dan Joyner Realty. During this time he served as President of the Spartanburg Multiple Listing Service in 1997 and as President of The Spartanburg Board of Realtors in 2003. He was a past member of The Downtown Sertoma Club where he served as treasurer.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Mott found great joy in the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, baker, birdwatcher, and devoted dog lover. He especially treasured the time he spent in Murrells Inlet, where he created lasting memories along the waterway with family and friends. He will be remembered as a true outdoorsman whose gratitude for nature was reflected in the closing of blessing he faithfully shared before family meals: “God bless the great outdoors.”

Mr. Mott is survived by his wife Linda Taylor Mott; daughter, Amy Chontos and her husband Britt and their sons Will and Mackey; and his son Henry Mott, Jr. and his wife Donna and son Elliott and daughter Anna.

Mr. Mott was a member of Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church where he served a term on the Vestry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baskerville Ministries at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Church
