Herbert Crawford Camp, III, 61, of Chapin, died Monday, July 4, 2022. Born November 25, 1960, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Herbert Crawford Camp, Jr. and Susie Bell Camp.
Mr. Camp was a 1978 graduate of Lower Richland High School where he played football and was on the track team. He then attended Charleston Southern University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. While in college, Mr. Camp competed on the college track team. Always a gifted athlete, he competed as a powerlifter, specializing in the bench press. He would later return to college an earn his MPA from the University of South Carolina.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Camp was employed for more than 27 years as the director of campus recreation at the University of South Carolina. He currently was employed by Allied Universal Security Services, Systems and Solutions.
Mr. Camp was an avid reader and enjoyed sports, especially Atlanta Braves baseball. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him for his kind disposition, radiant smile, pure heart, and loyal friendship. His greatest joy in life was being a great father, godfather, and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Dodson Camp; daughters, Lorelei Delaney Camp and Layla Suzanne Camp; godson, Hunter Karl Koch; in-laws, Thomas "Buddy" Dodson and Laurie Hall Dodson; as well as his brothers-in-law, Blake Dodson (Lauren) and Justin Dodson (Elizabeth).
The memorial service for Mr. Camp will be held at 11 o'clock, Wednesday, July 27th at Chapin United Methodist Church, 415 Lexington Ave, Chapin, SC 29036. The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
