Herbert James "Dick" Dial, 76, of Columbia, died Sunday, March 23, 2014. Born in Richland County on November 12, 1937, he was a son of the late Alena and Pearl Strickland Dial. He was a member of Spears Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Jonathan Dial of Columbia; daughters, Wendy (Kenny) Deacon of Akron, OH, Peaches (Gary) Coates of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren; and brother, Eual (Jean) Dial of Columbia. Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Strickland.

The funeral service for Mr. Dial will be held 2 o'clock, Thursday, March 27th, at Spears Creek Baptist Church, 116 Spears Creek Church Ln, Elgin, with The Rev. Greg Sweet officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.
